Soto Mission of San Francisco Sokoji through the efforts of Reverend Hosen Isobe and Japanese American volunteers was dedicated on December 8, 1934, (the date of the Jodoe - Buddha's attaining enlightenment). Since then, Sokoji has been a place for the Japanese American community to practice their beliefs and a place where anyone can practice meditation.

Sokoji currently offers various Buddhist services, a weekly Zazen, traditional Japanese ceremonies and events such as Hinamatsuri and Shichigosan, as well as a wide range of activities.
