The Soto Zen Buddhism South America office was founded in 1955.
The teachings of our Two Founders, Dogen Zenji and Keizan Zenji, are now widespread throughout the world, and so happens in South America as well.
As part of the activities of the South America Office, baikaryu special teachers and special dissemination teacher are invited annually from Japan, and they make round to temples and various communities. Also, in recent years, Zen meditation as taught by Dogen Zenji has spread around the world and South America is no exception. There are 100 or more Zen meditation groups throughout the continent, both large and small. An important role the South America Office plays is to keep in close contact with these groups to transmit the proper teachings about Zen.
These days, rapid scientific advances are taking place, and we now find ourselves in the age of the information society. In this age of upheaval, we believe that it is the duty of the South America Office to come up with missionary activities that help people of all backgrounds.
