Introduction

The Zen Temple of Komyoji, light which shines on all creatures, is situated on the ridge of a hill between two valleys of Appennino, on the way from Milan to Genoa, in the municipal district of Fortunago, in province of Pavia.

Historical survey

On 1978 Roberto Kengaku Pinciara meets Taisen Deshimaru, first Patriarch of Europe, and he will follow him untill the end of his days. On 1987, the monk Roberto Kengaku Pinciara, together with some adventurous, lays the foundation stone of the Temple of the Valley, which later on, after the important meeting with Narita Shuyu Roshi will be called Komyoji.
On 1999 Roberto Kengaku Pinciara receives the transmission of Dharma from his master Narita Shuyu.

The practice

The heart of Komyoji, his zazen, is the result of this progress and of this dedication. In the immobility and silence, when eveything is quiet and the wind stops, everything becomes visible in his light. This zazen is the main topic of our religious practice.

At Komyoji the year is articulated in three long breaths which characterize the Community

maestrolife: the Spring retreat, the Summer retreat, the Winter retreat. Here is an example of how a day is articulated during the retreats: we get up before dawn and sit in zazen. Then there is the morning ceremony and breakfast in dojo. The meeting with the Abbot during the tea ceremony marks the passage from the moment of silence to the moment of activity.
Then it begins the day devoted to the life of Community and of the Temple, besides the ordinary maintenance needs, sewing of Kesa, studying and discussing about traditional texts.
The midday ceremony and the ritual of meals end the morning.

The afternoon activities go on with moments of study (Teisho), of zazen or work.

After dinner, two zazen end the day.

During the year there are full immersion retreats for the zazen practice during which there are no other activities. There are also retreats for beginners, during the week end.

The nature of Komyoji is to be a barn that holds monks and laymen, men and women.
Everybody devote himself and wake up to the religious spirit which is part of every action of the daily life.
Beside the Zen practice, in the Komyoji Temple there are martial arts and re-balance energy pose seminars, cultural religious meetings where people can exchange their religious experience.
