SOTOZEN-NET > Templo Sotoshu > Organização e templos fora do Japão (Inglês) > Mantokuji, Mission of Paia, Maui
Paia Mantokuji Soto Zen Mission, in lower Paia, was founded by the Reverend Sokyo Ueoka of Hiroshima, Japan on November 11, 1906.
Located on a picturesque site overlooking the sea on the northeast coast of Maui, you will find a beautiful temple structure, a cemetery and columbarium, a bell tower, a memorial monument, and a Japanese Garden.
Monthly family services for worship, memorial services honoring our deceased loved ones, wedding ceremonies, and blessing ceremonies are conducted and are open to the public.
There are weekly zazen (meditation) sessions on Saturday mornings at 7am and Sunday evenings at 5pm. Dharma study, Japanese culture and language study sessions are also held seasonally. The temple also sponsors a taiko group(Japanese drum) and has an active Fujinkai (ladies) club.
We hold an annual bazaar in May and o-bon festival in July for the community.
