Report: The 110th Anniversary of Soto Zen Buddhism Teaching Activities in South America was held. (Anglais)

The 110th Anniversary of Soto Zen Buddhism Teachings Activities in South America was held on Saturday, August 24th and Sunday, 25th in The Republic of Peru.

On the 24th at 3 p.m. local time, 47 priests from Japan and all sides of South America, as well as 210 Peruvians of Japanese descent participated in the ceremonies held at the central hall of the Japanese Peruvian Culture Center in Lima. The "Presentation Ceremony of a Bell in Honor of Japan-Peru Friendship" and "Ceremony Commemorating the 110th Anniversary of Soto Zen Buddhism Teaching Activities in South America" were officiated over by Rev. Taido Kojima, Director of the Education and Dissemination Division. The "Memorial Ceremony for Deceased Kokusaifukyoshi of South America" was officiated by Rev. Shodo Kobayashi, Vice Administrator of Daihonzan Eiheiji. And the "Memorial Service for Immigrant pioneers and Deceased Japanese Descendants” was officiated by Rev. Eigen Otogawa, Administrator of Daihozan Sojiji. These ceremonies were followed by a Commemorative banquet.

On Sunday, August 25th, from 11 a.m. local time, at the Casablanca and the San Vicente cemeteries, approximately 160km from Lima, with 30 priests and about 80 people in attendance. Rev. Dogen Takenouchi, Guest Master and Chief of the International Department of Daihonzan Sojiji, officiated the services at the cemeteries. In addition, from 1 p.m. local time, at the Jionji temple, about 50 pries ts, and more than 200 people were in attendance for the "Ceremony Commemorating the Founder of Jionji and Past Resident Priests" as well as the "Service for Obon," respectively officiated by Rev. Dosho Saikawa, Director of Soto Zen Buddhism South America Office and Rev. Jisen Oshiro, Kokusaifukyoshi of South America.

The ceremonies were held in a solemnly devout atmosphere, and the dharma talk was done by Rev. Judo Kushida, Specially Dispatched Teacher of Sotoshu.
