Dairyuji Temple is located in the northern region of Tohoku on the Oga peninsula in Akita prefecture. Temple is an 8 minute walk from Oga station on the Oga line from Akita station. From the airport, it is approximatley a 1 1/2 drive to the Oga penninsula. The temple is located in the downtown area of Funakawa. There is free parking available at temple.

  • During Weekend Zen Mindfulness retreats only
  • Dairyuji hosts weekend Mindfulness retreats in English in the fall and spring. 10 participants take park in mediation and yoga classes to gain a deeper awareness of oneself. Sleeping accomindations are provided in tatami rooms on futons and all meals are provided. An outing is scheduled on Saturday to enjoy the stunning Oga penninsula and local culture. Time to relax and reconnect are encouraged in this welcoming and peaceful environment. There are dharma talks for those intersted and a guided tour of the temple is provided to learn more about Soto-shun Zen Buddhism in Japan. Retreat is run by Japanese head priest and his American wife. For more information please check website www.dairyuji-oga.com People are also wecolme to visit temple during daytime from 8:00am - 4:00pm. A donation of @ per person is deeply appreciated. You will be served green tea and given a tour of temple.
