The essence of the Soto Zen School was transmitted from China, eight hundred years ago, during the Kamakura period by Koso Dogen Zenji. The fourth Japanese ancestor of the school was Taiso Keizan Zenji who was instrumental in enhancing the teachings and expanding the school.
Rev. Gyokei Yokoyama was appointed as Soto Zen International Missionary in 2014 and has been serving Long Beach Buddhist Church since then. He also serves the Soto Zen Buddhism North America Office as a secretary while staying active in Soto Zen Buddhists Association, the local American Soto Zen Priests Association.
